Candlemas

Winter sun warms
my writing place,
sews diamonds
where tulips sleep.

Birds chirp and flutter
practice flirtation
over cracked corn
and thistle.

Quickened in spirit
by a whisper
of spring
amid the drifts,

teased--
for she is not done
with us
yet.
