Dave,

In general I'm sure everywhere in your past you've cast soldiers as cyborgs marching mindlessly in lock-step to their superiors imperialistic commands.

As for students, idealism is the pablum of the inexperienced, ignorant and those who know how to feed it to them, i.e. politicians, preachers, teachers.

None of which has anything to do with the fact that you don't have to know dick to know the Communist Chinese eat shit.  In my opinion, your point is a specific which does not inform the general.

yes, we should teach the young to be cynical, hard-hearted, and completely without compassion - to have no ideals whatsoever.

I taught my sons idealism couched within the framework of common sense about the realities of this world and the purpose for which we are here.  Their success (or lack thereof) comes comes from the realization that you change the world by changing yourself, not the reverse.

If, as you and Dave seem to believe, everyone else that has erred in their search for the missing link to fundamentally change the nature of man and you two possess the genius to do so, then have at it.

I'm saying, the world is already perfected for the function it serves in the universe and one should concentrate on changing themselves until they see it as such.

Now, pepperoni or sausage & mushroom?

yeah right - it's just me and dave. the fucking world is falling apart, but we should keep going in the same direction because you know our place in the universe.

how do you know what our function is in the universe - how do you know the universe has a function?  nobody lets anything slide around here -  and that includes me. why the contention? dave has an opinion - you have an opinion - we all have opinions. i don't know - it's getting a little tired.

I agree, I'm an annoying fuck.  Imagine, me, presuming I know what the fuck is going on.

I guess it was the "We" in the title that got to me.
