i just had fish for dinner faceless and nameless i mean it was catfish but with no surname or anything last night i had a steak that in its former life roamed freely and was organically fed kind meat, meat with a smile guiltless meat, murdered but gently so, with loving aquarian hands new age tenderloin that mooed gently into the night like jews sent to the concentration camp in plush boxcars with free drinks and a salad bar

Way to twist the end!
I don't know where my meat has been, it ended up at Popeye's.

I had 1lb of flounder done Korean sushi style today. Cross eyed fucker was swimmin' in the tank 5 minutes before he was swimming in me bellie! They skinned him alive as a birthday present to me.

i mean what i say and i say what i mean! good to see you back safe and sound! yes, it is jarring and i got mixed reactions - but i wanted it to jar people. i was a bit worried that some might find it offensive. still, this "kinder meat" phenomenon seems to be a guilt-assuager, and, to me, a bit hypocritical. if you're concerned enough about their welfare to insist on free range, i say take it one step farther and give up meat altogether. feeding them a better diet is a good thing, but if you kill and eat them afterwards it kind of demeans your ecological position and concerns. i eat meat so i have no room to talk (a poet though has all the room in the world) but i'd feel better about it if it were grown in a plasma tank or a meat vat.

but wait, I didn't finish my sentence:
I don't know where my meat has been, it ended up at Popeye's....
sitting beside me eating chicken (ba-da-boom)
Just kidding. I think without the last two lines, the poem would be boring.

i don't know. now that you mention it, the poem works without the last two lines - the point is delivered, perhaps with less bombast - but delivered just the same. i have to mull it over - chew it and see how it tastes.
