Wednesday, October 6 • 6:30pm - 9:00pm
Singer's Bar & Restaurant
227 West Chase Street
Baltimore, MD

!SPEAK YOUR PIECE!

David Eberhardt will be the featured poet for !SPEAK YOUR PIECE! on Wednesday, October 6, 2010. This weekly, featured performer and open mic event takes place every Wednesday night at Singer’s in Mount Vernon, 227 West Chase Street. The event will be preceded by an open mic. Sign-up for the open mic will begin at 6:30 pm. This event is free and open to the public.

A night of eerie poems - poems of horror and horribleness with ha...rdly any let up - poems of sex and violence and politics (politrix?), poems in the Poe manner, poems on prison, serial killers and so forth - all washed down by some spooky music. Please come to be very afraid and scared. Eberhardt is a poet/activist - himself an ex con who did time in the federal slammer at Lewisburg for pouring blood on draft files as a protest tot the Vietnam War- an action by the "Baltimore 4", including Father Phil Berrigan. He later received a pardon from President Ray gun- who really should have asked Dave for a pardon. Be that as it may, Eberhardt has published two small, quite collectable books of poetry - The Tree Calendar and Blue Running Lights. He likes the sound of "Eberhardt has published widely" (very vague). 69 years old - he works at the Baltimore City Jail, oppressing inmates - but seriously - he is an Administrator in the Inmate Programs Department.

!SPEAK YOUR PIECE! is hosted and organized by award-winning poet, performer & actor, M. S. Sanders. This event is presented by Singer’s Bar & Restaurant and Concurrence Multimedia.

Singer’s Bar & Restaurant is a boutique restaurant and bar with a focus on current music, comedy, spoken word, independent film and other forms of entertainment in the heart of the cultural district of Baltimore. Singer’s hosts nightly events spotlighting some of the best established performers and upcoming talent from local notables to out of state imports.

show begins 8:00 pm

Sponsored by Poetry in Baltimore and hosted by Julie Fisher.

Featured Poets: Gene Hosey and Cliff Lynn

Gene Hosey's poetry has been seen world-wide, through his own efforts at
printing up performance copies of works and getting them into the saddle
bags of willing mules who are traveling anywhere. Having not concentrated
on the grind of seeking publication, he has been lucky enough to be seen
occasionally by publishers who invite him to make books, none of which are
available currently. Hosey has performed with fellow artists in theater,
music, filmmaking, recording, television and radio, to name a few, in
locations you are all familiar with, geographically speaking. He has also
done some time in schools and with community groups and others to help
create the need for what we do. He mostly concentrates on grabbing the
time to put pen to paper, sandbagging against the inevitable.

Cliff Lynn is an award-winning poet and orioles fan. he hasn't won any
awards for the latter. a retired navy man, he has read poetry in vegas,
california, texas, hawaii, pennsylvania, northern virginia and maryland,
and gets kicked out of denny's a lot.. with multi-media poet rocky jones,
he co-hosts two monthly reading series in annapolis, and with r.j.
ridgely, one series in westminster.
cliff was the inspiration for the barbara decesare instant classic 3-act
mini-play "cliff gets kicked out of denny's a lot". his favorite poets
include richard brautigan, gene hosey and julie "fisher king" fisher.
