The Fledgling
«

hidden within warmth
of memory’s shell,
fledgling waits to emerge
into a world unknown
surf ripples slowly
upon darkened shore,
reflecting starlight’s promises
that faded with the final tide
gulf between living and dead
increases as Styx’s spill
reaches the nest
slight peck
as cracks opens the world
he is alone-
and becomes another piece of flotsam
on death’s currents
