Woo Hoo! A Scrabble Tournament

SCRABBLE® FUNDRAISER FOR GREATER HOMEWOOD ADULT LITERACY & ESOL PROGRAM
Baltimore Scrabble® lovers are preparing to shake their tile bags and check their dictionairies for a good cause. The Fourth Annual SCRABBLE® FUNDRAISER FOR LITERACY will benefit the Greater Homewood Community Corporation Adult Literacy and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Program. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the 6 p.m. start at the Glass Pavilion on the Johns Hopkins University Homewood Campus on Friday, March 18, 2005. The entry fee is $25 ($12 for students with ID and seniors.) One hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit the Greater Homewood Adult Literacy & ESOL Program.

Winners will receive prizes from local retailers and restaurants. Food and a cash bar will be on hand. Free parking is also available. The general public is welcome to come and play on either the "competitive" or "social" level. Recent U.S. Census data show that Baltimore has one of the lowest rates of high school graduation in the country, ranked 226 out of 231 municipalities. The Greater Homewood Adult Literacy & ESOL Program works on the local level to fight a national problem by providing adults with professionally trained and supervised tutors and instructors. They're committed to increasing literacy and assisting individuals to achieve personal, educational and job-related goals.
