from dave eberhardt- fab performance by chris mason and charles brohawn- the tinklers at loads of fun on 11/3- poetry AND music so, not just a reading they only perform abt once a year a documentary dvd is now out also- by id productions- "we all love the tinklers"- it was also shown for me the tinklers are the best band in baltimore- they have been on the scene for 30 years- they are like geniuses that lie in plain sight- but...they are not totally undiscovered the thing abt them is- they are honest- there is no pretension- they play unique instruments- the music is good- especially chrles slide guitar- they both have good voices- but, for me- a poet- the verse is the best part "burpin fungus people w flashlight heads, dad cooks outdoors, mom cooks indoors, cheese wolf- the toughest kid in junior high, don't stick yr. fingers in the fan, "etc. everybody does love the tinklers!- i am trying to describe their verse- it is- childlike, positive, fey, humorous, halting and mistake prone, quirky like baltimore, satiric, sincere, child like (not childish) one thing abt the verse- like the art work and the charts and the tinklers "history of the world" scroll- the word choice exactly describes the emotion called upon i see them in the smithsonian some day- and yet- in a way- america is not ready for them what do all the boxes underneath this mean?
